Every three months we offer a community practice, which is free of charge. We chant the opening mantra together at 7am and then do a self practice. It’s suitable for everyone practicing Ashtanga yoga except for complete beginners, as there will be nobody teaching.

6.30am – 9.00am Free Self Practice

The shala will be open from 6.30am. We will all chant the opening mantra at 7am and start the practice together.

Please note that Tom and Katharina will be practicing with everyone and there will be no one teaching the class, so this is only suitable for people who already have an Ashtanga practice.

9.00am  Brunch

After the practice we would like to invite you to join us in the shala to enjoy a pot luck brunch together.

The Resort

Relais Regina Giovanna is a 50 acre organic farm on the Amalfi coast of Italy, just one hour from Naples. The farmland is open for you to explore including visiting the many animals they keep around the farm. There are plenty of paths and areas to discover in and around the farm where you can find quite places to relax, either by the sea or amongst the olive and lemon groves. There is also a 24 hour reception with friendly staff that are happy to help you with anything you might need.

The Private Beach

The private beach which is open 24 hours a day is only accessible by guests of the relais. There is a fresh supply of beach towls at your disposal down by the sea. They also have a kayak which you are free to use and theres lots to see if you bring a snorkel mask or goggles. The beach also has an outdoor shower, toilets and sun beds, so you can make yourself comfortable.

The Shala

The shala is located just a 5 minute walk from the camping and apartments and a 2 minute walk from the rooms. It has a wood burner to keep the room warm in the early mornings and outside you may find the occasional bunny rabbit hopping around. There are good quality black mats and blankets available to use.

Exploring the Area

The area around the farm is just as beautiful and easy to get to. It is only a short 15 minute walk to the natural pool “Bagni Regina Giovanna” and the ruins of its adjacent Roman villa. It is also possible to hike over to the neighbouring village by the sea, which takes only 20 minutes.

The Accommodation

The main villa is located in the centre of the farm. The luxury rooms all come with ensuite bathrooms and all the needed comforts. All rooms come with a large bedroom and separate living space. Free wifi is available in all rooms. There is also the option for a luxury apartment for a family and camping in the olive groves and gardens.

The Food

Most of the food is grown on the organic farm. Breakfast, lunch and a light dinner are included. Vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian and non-vegetarian options are available. The food is usually served as a buffet, so that you can choose what you want from the daily menu. Filtered tap water both still and sparkling is available at the retreat free of charge at any time.

Transport

The Relais provides free pick up and drop off service from and to Port of Sorrento or the Sorrento train station. So if you need collecting when you arrive or want to pop into town you can just arrange it with the reception. Sorrento is around 10 minutes by car and from there it is easy to catch the train to the areas around. Sorrento also has many shops if you need something and restaurants if you wish to eat out.

Excursions

If you want to go out for the day the kitchen is happy to prepare sandwiches for your trip. We definitely recommend visiting Pompeii, it takes only one hour by train from Sorrento. Another day trip could be to hike up Mount Vesuvius, which you see from the farm looking towards Naples. The town of Sorrento is also worth a visit.

The workshop is open to any level of practitioner including complete beginners.

The workshop will be predominately held in English although Katharina can also teach the Mysore classes in German.

Practitioners with Children

Childcare will also be available during the practice times and it is included in the price for children.

Beginners

Absolute beginners are welcome to the retreat. Please visit the classes section on our website to find out more about how the Ashtanga Mysore Style practice works. We recommend that you visit our shala in Berlin beforehand if possible, but it is not mandatory.

Meditation

Meditation is open to everyone at the retreat and is free of charge. Some of the meditations will be guided whilst others will be silent. They will be held in the shala.

The Food

Vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian and non-vegetarian options are available.

Filtered tap water both still and sparkling is available at the retreat free of charge at any time of the day.

The area is well known for it’s delicious lemons and olive oils which are always available at the dining tables. You can of course just pick a lemon from a tree.

Breakfast is served from 7.30am to 11am everyday. Freshly squeezed organic orange and lemon juice is available which are grown from the farm. Plus of course your choice of hot beverages like tea, coffee and hot chocolate with milk (including vegan options). There are also organic eggs from the chickens on the farm can be prepared for you on the spot.

A light dinner will be served after meditation.

Non-vegetarians will need to pay an additional amount if they would like to include meat with their lunch. Costs will vary depending on what’s available.

What you should bring

It’s recommended that you bring your own mat although there will be some there if you don’t have one. Please bring a small towel for adjustments as you are likely to sweat at this time of year. A cotton mat is also recommended as your mat may get slippery.

2020 Details coming soon

2019 with Greg

We are excited to announce that Greg Nardi will be coming back to our shala in Berlin this September. Greg has been studying eastern philosophy for over 20 years and we recommend practicing and learning with him. He will be teaching a 6 day workshop, which will include 5 Mysore practices, 3 afternoon classes, 1 led class and daily chanting.

Greg Nardi, owner of Ashtanga Yoga Worldwide, director of Amāyu Yoga

“I practice Yoga so that I can do the work to be the best version of myself. I use the practice to nurture myself and develop self-acceptance. I draw on it to help me through difficult times. I practice to center myself, so I can consciously engage with the world in ways that are meaningful.”

Greg Nardi is the owner of Ashtanga Yoga Worldwide where he teaches a Mysore program almost daily as well as an internationally renowned teacher of workshops in yoga practice and theory. Greg’s classes and workshops draw on his experience in the oral tradition of yoga that he participated in on numerous trips to study in Mysore, India and with teachers in N. America and Europe, his years of practice, and his ongoing self-study of academic research in contemporary and traditional yoga.

Since rescinding his authorization through the KPJ Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India in 2018 Greg has joined the board of directors for Amāyu Yoga, a first of its kind organization dedicated to educating Ashtanga teachers around power dynamics and consent driven, student centered approaches to the teaching and practice of Ashtanga Yoga.
